Editorial Policy
How we pick topics, check facts and make money, in plain English.

How we pick topics
We write about what readers actually search for and ask us about. Questions sent to Ask Big Sis shape a lot of what we cover. We skip topics where we can’t give safe, useful advice.
How we research
Our guides are written by the BestieBrief editorial team and based on guidance from experts and trusted sources, like the American Academy of Dermatology, Mayo Clinic and the CDC. We link our sources in every article.
We start with medical and professional sources: health organizations, peer-reviewed research and guidance from licensed professionals. Blogs and social media posts are never our only source.
Health, mental health and safety
Guides about your body, your mind, relationships or safety stick to what major health organizations recommend. Health and mental health guides are reviewed by licensed professionals before they go up. We don’t diagnose anything, and we tell you when it’s time to talk to a doctor, a school counselor or a trusted adult.
Affiliate links and ads
Some product links earn us a small commission. Brands can’t pay for a spot in our picks, and anything sponsored is clearly labeled “Sponsored.” Ads, when we run them, are marked “Advertisement” and kept away from quizzes and help boxes. More in our affiliate disclosure.
Safety and age
BestieBrief is for readers 13 and up. We don’t collect emails from anyone under 13. Every heavy topic ends with real, free help lines, like the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline and Crisis Text Line.
Reader questions
Questions sent to Ask Big Sis are anonymous. Before we publish one, we edit out anything that could identify the person who asked or anyone they mention.
Updates and corrections
We check our guides regularly and update them when advice changes. When we get something wrong, we fix it, add a note with the date and say what changed.
