My Crush Left Me on Read. Should I Text Again?
One unanswered text isn't a verdict. Wait a day or two, then send one easy, new message. If that goes unanswered too, let it go for now.

In this guide
I texted my crush yesterday and they read it but didn't answer. Should I text again or just wait?
“Read 4:12 PM.” And then nothing. You’ve checked your phone 40 times, reread your text to see if it was weird and drafted three follow-ups you didn’t send.
Deep breath. Here’s what’s actually going on, and what to do.
Being left on read doesn’t always mean what you think
People open texts and forget to answer all the time. They were in class, at practice, in the middle of a game, talking to their mom, or didn’t know what to say. Your text might also have been easy to read and hard to reply to, like “lol” or a meme.
One unanswered text is not a verdict on whether they like you.
What to do
Don’t double-text right away
Sending “??” or “hello?” an hour later feels urgent to you and pressuring to them. Give it a day, maybe two.
Then send something new and easy
Don’t ask why they didn’t reply. Start fresh with something that’s easy to answer:
- “Did you finish the bio homework? I’m so lost on number 6”
- “Okay, I need your opinion on something”
- A question about something they’re into
Need more? Here’s what to text your crush so it doesn’t get dry.
If they answer, great
Keep it light. Don’t bring up the unanswered text.
If that one goes unanswered too
Stop texting for now. Two messages in a row with no reply is a pretty clear signal that they’re not putting in effort right now. Matching their energy protects your dignity, and if they’re interested, they know how to reach you.
Look at the bigger picture
One text doesn’t tell you much. A pattern does. Do they ever start conversations? Do they reply fast to some things but not others? Do they talk to you at school? Here are more signs someone likes you to look at.
